Common Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeries
Breast reconstruction: Our reconstructive surgeons routinely perform breast reconstruction to restore normal shape, size, symmetry, and appearance after a mastectomy or lumpectomy, or to correct a congenital deformity.
Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty): Excess glandular tissue, breast fat, and skin is removed to create a proportional aesthetic and alleviate pain and discomfort associated with macromastia (excessively large breasts).
Body contouring after major weight loss: Significant weight loss can lead to sagging skin in various areas of the body when the skin, which has been stretched over time, is unable to return to its original position. Body contouring involves removing the excess skin to provide smoother contours, improve body shape, and alleviate medical and hygienic issues that may arise after weight loss, such as rashes, infections, and/or sores. Body contouring procedures offered at LOSC include:
- Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)
- Brachioplasty (arm lift)
- Breast lift
- Face/neck lift
- Lower body lift
- Thigh lift
Burn reconstructive surgery: The plastic surgeons at LOSC have extensive, specialized training and expertise in reconstructing distorted tissue and structures damaged by burns. We work closely with a multidisciplinary team of doctors to provide state-of-the-art, individualized care to achieve the best possible outcome for all our burn patients.
Cleft lip and palate repair: Primary and secondary cleft repair surgeries are performed on both children and adults to correct incomplete formation of the upper lip and/or roof of the mouth.
Congenital reconstructive surgery: Comprehensive surgical care is offered from birth to adulthood to treat all manners of congenital differences.
Cosmetic enhancement: Our plastic surgery experts offer cosmetic surgical procedures to maintain, augment, and/or restore the appearance to help patients look and feel their best. Cosmetic surgeries we perform include:
- Breast augmentations and lifts
- Face, forehead, and neck lifts
- Cheek and chin augmentations
- Eyelid surgeries
- Ear pinning and earlobe repair/reduction
- Mole excisions
- Liposuction
- Tummy tucks
- Lower body lifts (abdomen, groin, buttocks, and outer thigh)
- Upper arm lifts
- Medial thigh lifts
- Laser resurfacing
Hand surgery: Hand impairment (often caused by trauma or congenital anomaly) can be treated to improve strength, function, and flexibility, as well as reduce the pain that may be associated with the condition.
Nevus removal: Congenital pigmented nevi (moles) can be removed to reduce melanoma risk, as well as to improve appearance in cases involving large nevi. Small nevi can be surgically excised and the affected area closed with sutures, while larger removals can require the use of skin grafting and tissue expansion techniques.
Oncologic reconstruction surgery: Following cancer surgery, our plastic surgeons can reconstruct hard or soft tissue which may need repair after tumor removal. Skin cancer removal is also performed by our reconstructive experts using specialized techniques to minimize scarring while preserving health.
Otoplasty: Ear deformities or irregularities can be corrected by augmenting or reshaping the ears utilizing plastic surgery. Otoplasty is commonly performed to correct ear shape, reduce ear size, and provide a more symmetrical appearance.
Rhinoplasty: Nose reconstruction can be performed through small incisions inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or, when more suitable for the patient’s needs, an open technique utilizing an incision between the nostrils may be employed.
Scar revision: Scar minimization surgery is offered at LOSC to improve scar appearance and make it less noticeable. Scars commonly treated include:
- Contractures- Scars formed by skin and underlying tissue pulling together and ultimately restricting movement
- Hypertrophic scars- Clusters of scar tissue at a wound site which can appear red or raised and widen over time
- Keloids- Larger scars that extend beyond the excision or wound area and can appear puckered, as well as cause pain and itchiness
- Surface irregularities and discolorations- Non-painful scars which do not impair function such as those caused by acne, minor injuries, or prior surgical procedures
Trauma reconstruction: Workplace or vehicular accidents, animal bites, and other traumatic injuries are treated at LOSC. Our plastic surgeons are uniquely qualified in the most advanced methods of scar revision, jaw reconstruction, and delayed reconstruction for previously treated injuries.
Whether you are looking for a plastic surgeon for cosmetic enhancements, cancer reconstruction, or corrective surgery for congenital abnormalities, the experts at Live Oak Surgery Center are committed to providing comprehensive, compassionate surgical care that results in a successful outcome for every patient.
